| - They used an adapter harness/plug for the HU. You should be able to remove the HU by just disconnecting those 2 (white/yellow) connectors. That adapter plug (+ a few inches of wire) can be reused with the next HU that is purchased. You'll need to cut all the wires (car battery disconnected) and then reconnect them to the new HU plug that comes with the new unit. - It looks as if he re-used the factory wires for the speakers. The Bose wiring to each speaker/amp has 4 lines. Two for signal and two for amp power. You can cut/splice into the audio lines and attach them to the speakers directly -- in this case the previous owner used a short length of wire with a push-on connector as a way to easily connect to his speakers. Not sure why your new speakers didn't work when attached? Maybe there's an issue with the Clarion HU? If those lines shorted together when disconnected and the HU was running - might have caused an issue to? Others here may be able to assist with add'l advice....
